Forums: Index > Help desk > Is there any way of running C1 on WinXP?

Hi there.

I just found my old C1 disc, and I remember being one of my favorites so I wanted to give it a kick, I slip the CD in the drive and up pops "Creatures can only run in windows95". I tried loopholing it by running the install file from the cd, but same problem, just as the install program starts it gives me the same error message. I don't have Win95 anymore, and I assume I'm not the only one in this situation, how do you Creatures fans run C1 on your new machines? Is there a patch, a fix or something I can do?

Thanks in advance

There's an install patch

There is a thread on the official forums about this - http://forums.gamewaredevelopment.com/showthread.php?t=302 - which seems to work wonderfully.

Windows XP compatibility mode

Have you reinstalled the game? To install C1 on XP - Open 'My Computer' the CD drive, then the "Install" folder. Right click on setup.exe and select Properties. Click the "Compatibility" tab and uncheck the check box next to the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Next try to run setup.exe and, if it fails, try using the compatibility option "Windows 98 / Windows Me". If you get the "16 bit Windows Subsystem" error that is fine and easily fixable. If the game has recently been installed then check the compatibility setting on Creatures.exe and Launcher.exe in C:\Program Files\Creatures\ and make sure it is disabled for both - Don 15:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
